Intermediate Sea Kayak Navigation

Navigation usually begins over a coffee and then the research begins, but the real navigation starts when the paddle hits the water. This program deals with on the water navigation of piloting, taking field bearings and following them, fixing locations, time management, and recognizing environmental factors that can alter your plans.

This program is kayak based and intermediate kayaking skills and some touring are recommended to maximize your learning potential. The focus of this course is navigation, if your paddling skill and technique require development and refinement we will be happy to offer those in one of our introductory and intermediate paddling technique courses.

Duration
Recognizing that real life plays a major roll in everyday living, we have developed this course with two choices to accommodate all of our needs. The course is offered as a full day program and is also broken in two for those juggling multiple schedules.

The full day program has the theory component in the morning and then the practical component on the water in the afternoon.

The split program will have the theory portion as an evening session and the practical portion during the weekend. The first evening portion is theory and held indoors. The second component is practical and the application will be held on the water. This second portion is a half day. Pack a lunch.

On the practical portion we put in from our Adventure Centre at Brechin Boat Launch on Newcastle Channel, and paddle from there.
